Back in 1997 I wrote and co-directed an animated short with H.R. Giger. Unfortunately we encountered budget problems and also made the mistake of using "Mirai" in conjunction with 3DS Max based on promises that they would get their rendering engines working, never happened. 10's of $1,000's of dollars later I sadly had to put the project on hold. I still own the license and one day I will bring this project to fruition. For now all of the 3D assets from the project are in suspended animation on back-up drives.

This short trailer was a Siggraph 97 teaser for the convention in LA that year. I was the 3D consultant for IBM's IntelliStation line at the time and we featured this clip repeatedly.

Out of sentiment I found this clip again by chance in my archives and felt that I should put it out there for fun and see how far we've come in 12 years :-)

  • As a let's just say "big fan"...Yes, this is really captivating. I imagine a virtual gallery where I could go into each landscape of each painting as you showed. Really great work in progress. Plz finish this.

  • man what an art giger is a god i hope one to see a film with all the art by him great cg friend giger art is something from outer of this world.

  • Pretty great modeling and such given that it was made in 97. Must've been about top notch back then. The bull creature about a minute in still looks pretty great by today's standard.

  • this is brilliant, i would love to see it finished.. mindblowing!

  • This is great even now !!!

Sure the animation could look better, but it is very dynamic and I somehow like the vintage taste to it.

Why don't you try to finish it now? I personally would love to see it.

You could look for financing trough kickstarter(dot)com
