Does anyone know who the banjo player is here? Was it Roger McGuinn?

@probrojeffro Ed moved to Canada and spent the last part of his life there. He became a Canadian citizen in the nineties I believe. When he appeared at a festival in Cobourg, Ontario he said that he had officially changed the lyrics from "the room was filled with men" to"all filled with women and men".

@ukesruletheydo Coincidentally, I was watching Steve Martin play his banjo on the Muppets a few days ago, on utube. I still think he should stick to comedy.

@65scratch1 Tell that to Steve Martin or Bela Fleck...

Oh dear, a BP advert at the beginning, is it just me who sees a sad irony there?

@jbkitty91990 If you'd ever listened to a 'banjo band' you'd know what I mean! A banjo is like a piano accordion : the definition of a gentleman is someone who knows how to play either - and never does.
-
@65scratch1 what do you mean of course it is
-
1:30 the best banjo solo ever
-
@spenceofsong A banjo isn't a musical instrument!!

Ed McCurdy was an American folk singer, songwriter, and television actor. His anti-war classic, "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream" inspired and gave hope to those in the peace movement.

Definitely created by the late Ed McCurdy. Check out the Corries version on youtube

I like the line "And the people in the streets below/Were dancing round and round" because these are the people who fight and die in the wars created and waged by the upper class. If only the "people in the streets below" would realize what a waste current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are, and scatter their guns and swords and uniforms on the ground! The politicians aren't interested in peace, so it falls to the gullible people who enlisted to stand up and be courageous.
