It's true: Awakening has no "proprietor", no "holder", Ultimate Reality is not "Buddhist" - but have high appreciation and reverence for a clear Spiritual Path.
@goodmangillmanpharma hpow can buddhism be the oldest religion if it was a transcendental version of hinduism, or that even vedanta which predates even hinduism, and what about zorastianism or the ancient egytian religion? and as far as budhism being the most moral? it sounds like u are turning buddhism into an ego thing, dont let ur religion put u into an ego trip, all relgions are the same and are all good besides a small few that ittle people follow anyways.
@Phranky buddhism is the oldest religion . the buddha introduced us to buddhism and he was not the founder of buddhism ....there were many buddhas in the prehistoric period also and also before the buddha. hinduism and islam both agree about buddhism and buddha is the god in human nature in hinduism while islam tells he was a messenger of god. but i am sure he was god in human nature and an enligtened man... buddhism is the most moral religion of all times
When discussing what "true buddhism" is it is always important to keep in mind that no schools of Buddhism existed prior to the Buddha's enlightenment. He studied under many masters and found his own way. “Be a light unto yourself, betake yourselves to no external refuge. Hold fast to the Truth. Look not for refuge to anyone but yourselves.” - Buddha
have I shown to you the Teaching's similitude to a raft: as having the purpose of crossing over, not the purpose of being clung to. You, O monks, who understand the Teachings, you should let go even (good) teachings, how much more false ones!"
In this talk Sayadaw is reflecting the ZEN-understanding of the Path - but he speaks from the position of the original Buddha-Dhamma: (Majjhima Nikaya 22, Alagaddupama Sutta, Parable of the raft): "...'This raft (=Dhamma Teachings), indeed, has been very helpful to me. Carried by it, laboring with hands and feet, I got safely across to the other shore (Nibbana). Should I now lift this raft on my head or put it on my shoulders, and go where I like?" — "No, Lord" — "In the same way, monks, -->
No disrespect for the preaching monk. but after listening to this talk, i did not get a point from Dhamma. It sounded more like a few talks on different topics put together. But again, mayb it's because he was trying to talk to Western audience so tat they can understand easier. Are there famous mediation centers in Sri lankar? i m from myanmar/burma.
