@runningcockroach I mean if you're badass enough to track it down yourself and go find whoever has it that's fine but the technology is supposed to be used by police. In my town, nothing happens. The police get called if the wind blows too hard and makes noise outside. Haha :)

@swantonspear what town do you live in where a cop would even answer a call for a stolen laptop?
-
these are good to deter "thefts of opportunity". like if u leave the room, and someone happens to see your notebook, they prolly dont have wire cutters on them.

A Kensington lock is not to prevent someone from steeling a notebook itself. Its just making it difficult for people who just walk into a library and take unwatched notebooks.
It will make sure that the bastard cant take it without attracting any attention...

Kensington locks, like most locks only do 1 thing, keep honest people, honest. They only deter the opportunistic thief who looking for a quick grab and dash. If they really want your laptop they will get it. A simple bolt cutters will cut virtually any kensinigton cable. But, your average thief isn't walking through Barnes & Noble cafe with a bolt cutter looking to steal a laptop off a table where someone got up to get their latte. Your average thief wants the unlocked, unattended laptop.

and to think apple use theese on their super expensive swish laptops... haha

Buying Lojack is a better deal. Yeah, its a hundred dollars and doesn't physically protect your laptop but if it does get stolen the police can track the Lojack GPS and locate your laptop for you. Kind of like ADT for computers.

OK, clearly this guy knows nothing about locks. Any RETRACTABLE lock has to have a diameter of cable thin enough to be rolled back into its casing, clearly the 2mm - 3mm used on this lock is designed for portability and travel, to be used as a deterrent and guard against opportunistic thieves. If it was any thicker it would not be able to be retracted and the cable would be too tense to roll. Also the fact that he named this HOW TO DEFEAT THE KENSINGTON MICROSAVER LAPTOP LOCK -is utter rubbish

A little pair of wire cutters won't cut open their 1/4 inch cable on a few models. And if they see a laptop with a lock on it it would generally be too much work. If i was a thief i'd just steal the ones out in the open.
Kensington is a fucking joke. I wouldn't be surprised if thieves have been found dead during burglaries after laughing so hard at the owner's pathetic security attempt.

That's why I take the laptop everywhere, even the crapper.
