The Gresley Soctiety's oldest Locomotive, N2 No.1744, has recently come out of resoration after its mandatory 10 year overhaul and I was lucky enough to get a cab ride in it on its first day of the engines timetabled passenger runs on Wednesday 1st July 2009.
I break from my weeks work experience in the MPD at Loughborough to ride in the Cab of GNR N2 No.1744 filming the route as Driver Roger and Fireman Alan and I went up the Great Central Main line on probably the hottest day of the year so far. The enclosed space of the cab, trapped the heat from the sun and also from the radiating fire box as well so by the time we got back on shed, the crew had about had it!
In the video I take you on a tour of the Great Central Railway from Loughborough to Leicester and return, attending to a lineside fire on the way! The heat, oil and soot put my camera through its paces so apologies for some blur in the obtained images in the cab.
i think its very handsome in this liverly couldnt stand it in black

did the steam engine cause the fire ?

Yes. By a spark from the exhaust. It was one of the most hottest days of the year which helped it to smoulder until what you see in the video.
