Even though the series was 4-1-3 for the Soviets, it could've easily been a split. Also, the only bad game Canada had in the series was the 9-5 loss in Winnipeg.
Bobby Hull was 35 in 1974 I don't consider 35 years of age any hockey players prime, let alone Hull's . Maybe 8 to 10 years before this Bobby was in his prime! I idolized Hull and remember him playing in the 1960's. A sight to behold!!!
I believe that the games were on both CBC & CTV so that could be the reason why Chevrier & Esaw alternated the games in Canada.
I think Esaw did all 4 games in the Soviet Union while Chevrier did interviews from ice level.
Funny thing happened with Game 6, there were satellite problems & the TV commentary was down a few times or crossed with CBC Radio. You won't believe who did play-by-play for CBC Radio. It was Bob Cole!
The MacLeod guy was Don "Smokey" MacLeod who was a goalie for the Calgary Cowboys in the 76-77 season. Saw him play in the Jets home opener that year. Bobby Hull scored twice in a 4-1 win. Lynn Powis got the lone Calgary goal.
Yeah, now that I hear it, you're right. Funny, I saw another clip from a different game in the series and Don Chevrier was doing play-by-play. I wonder why they had different guys doing it.

Yes, you're right. This just solidify's my point though. This was, by far, not the best team Canada could ice.

That's saying a lot, considering Tony Esposito played quite well for Canada in 1972.

Cheevers played most of the games with Mcleod getting a cameo in Canada. The Russions said Cheevers was the best they had seen or played against
