  • che suono meraviglioso!!!!

  • aha i see yeah i noticed argerich plays with such ease...it's amazingggg

    thanks :D

  • Oops sorry, didn't see the second comment get posted so I wrote one again. Anyway, hope it makes sense! Check out Valentina Lisitsa too.

  • Kind of like that 'flapping' motion when does a girly wave. Of course one uses the whole arm as an apparatus to play the piano, but it makes sense to focus on specific parts as the passage suits.

  • Kinda like when one flaps their fingers to do the girly wave?! One uses the whole arm, of course, to play the piano, focusing on different parts of the apparatus as the passage suits. This opening passage, I would consider, is one that doesn't require much more movement than the so-called 'flapping' of the fingers from the knuckles whilst keeping the wrist very free, and the rest of the arm very light.

  • Hmm I'll try!

I've been observing various pianists on here and I've found that Argerich is a good example of someone who I would describe as 'playing from the knuckles'. Basically, the fingers are all very free and independent, and their movements start from the knuckles.

  • can you explain further on "playing from the knuckles" please?

  • Keep the whole arm very free and light and play from the knunckles. I find my wrist naturally goes parellel to the keyboard when my arm is free.

  • yes i agree......

i learned from a teacher at eastman to stick your elbow out a little so it releases some tension from your forearm and then just keep a low wrist, though some like to play it with a high wrist.
