Free All IRA Prisoners - Weekend of Actions

Ógra Shinn Féin got active across Ireland in the past weekend (12 - 14 Dec '09) to demand the immediate release of IRA Prisoners of War, some of whom qualify under the terms of the GFA for release and all should be released because the leadership of Óglaidh na hÉireann formally called an end to their armed campaign over 3 years ago.

Leaflet drops, postering, information stalls, protests, vigils and public talks where organised throughout the 32 counties and the weekend of action was also used to highlight the plight of international prisoners in the Basque Country, Leonard Peltier, Miami 5 and Pól Brennan, who is currently fighting deportation from the US.

Other actions have taken place througout December, and more are scheduled to take place before Christmas.

What IRA prisoners? They were all released after the Good Friday agreement! The CIRA and the RIRA are terrorists who have no political representation. They live in the past! There will only be a united Ireland through peace and reconciliation.

The most high profile atrocity of the war took place in Dublin in November 1920, and is still known as Bloody Sunday. In the early hours of the morning, Collins' "Squad" assassinated 14 British agents, some in front of their wives and families. In reprisal, that afternoon, British forces opened fire on a football crowd at Croke Park, killing 14 civilians. Towards the end of the day, two prominent Republicans and a friend of theirs were arrested and killed by Crown Forces
