My love of John McCormack was passed on to me by my father. So it was with some delight that I heard this recording by him recently. He always prided himself in being able to sing, but we agreed to disagree :-) However, I now have to eat my words. This recording was made over thirty years ago, and though not of the highest quality it shows he had talent. He always told us that Dame Vera Rozsa offered to teach him for free, and now I see why. The song is Per La Gloria D'adorarvi. The photo is of more recent vintage.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. Dad knew Liam Breen, as did anyone with a passion for McCormack. Apparently Liam had a wonderful collection of McCormack memorabilia, including opera costumes and even one of Mac's concert suits. Cyril McCormack, John's son was by all accounts a generous man in donating such material. Where it all is now is anyone's guess. BTW - Athlone Castle is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and a new permanent McCormack exhibition is planned.

  • Many thanks for your kind words.

  • @JMCTV If anyone could provide me the contact details for Mr Peter or Martim Dwan I would appreciate it. There is indeed an exhibition planned in celebration of Count John McCormack and Peter would be very useful to speak to in relation to this.

  • @JMCTV Lovely rendition and a talented man indeed - I'm sure you are very proud of him. Your father definitely understood what made McCormack great as it shows in his singing. The simpler you are the greater your voice will shine. Well done with your great channel and thanks. Like you, my father has passed the love of McCormack and also Bjorling on to me. I can remember as a child, after being scalped by the barber being brought to Liam Breen's shop in Capel St where my Dad bought all his 78s.

  • A voice of no mean talent. You can be proud of your father. Many thanks for all your efforts to keep the unmatched brilliance of the great John McCormack still available to the music lovers of today.
