An official at the Ministry of Trade, a Shia who was a 13-year veteran in Saddam Hussein's army, discusses the connection between hot-spots for insurgency and al Qaeda activity and decisions made by Saddam decades ago. Read the dispatch, "Bread and a Circus, Pt 2" to get the full context for this footage. It is published at http://www.michaelyon-online.com/wp/bread-and-a-circus-part-ii-of-ii.htm

  • These are the most important videos on Youtube today. Amazing... NYTimes asleep at the wheel AGAIN!!!

  • He's drinking water from a hose on his camelback.

  • Another fascinating dispatch --Thanks. What's Lt. Wallach smoking at the end of the clip?

  • Awesome Video as always Michael. I hope some mainstream media wake up soon and stop helping AQ

  • Our troops, our allies, and the Iraqi people are in our prayers. United they will beat down AQ & Co.

Stay as safe as possible Mike. Thank you for your service and the service you give us in getting the truth out to the world. We are greatful for everything you are doing.

  • take a all

  • LT David Wallach (the translator) is greatly appreciated -- his demeanor seems to have helped in this process.

Good work to all, thanks Michael!

  • Finally! The real story about what's going on in Iraq and why.

The constant bombardment with body counts and bombings coming from traditional news media doesn't tell anyone anything. (Other than telling the American people that a journalism degree is just a license to control the public through misinformation.)

At least Michael Yon knows what a war correspondent is supposed to do. Inform.

Keep up the good work, Mike!

  • Great job as usual Mike. Stay safe and let the troops and Iraqi's know we are praying for them

  • For some reason I think this is going to be a very long dispatch...
