Akai LPK25 = synth (pan slight-right)
Korg nanoKEY = guitar (pan slight-left)

I wanted to show that one mini-keyboard is pretty much able to do the same as the other.

I really like the LPK25 because of its more "realistic" keys and raised black keys (also, I don't think the keys will break off as easily), but the nanoKEY is great because of the pitch bend buttons (soloing, etc). I'm not one to typically use arpeggiators, but that specific feature of the LPK is pretty neat for such a tiny keyboard.

NOTE: I know I didn't play this perfectly, and it might be a notch out of sync - I didn't want to put countless hours in to learn a riff on a tiny keyboard. This was just a fun little project and was a blast to record.

  • Hey! which one you like the most? I own a nanokey, and I must say I still can't get used to how it feels, I thought that the Akai mini keys are better, but in this video you can play both with the same ease, wich one is better for you?

Oh, BTW, your performance is amazing!

  • @PabloDarioLi I really like the Akai because it has raised black keys. The only thing that continues to draw me back to the nanoKEY is that it has the pitch-buttons.

  • Really cool man! I just ordered my Akai LPK25, of course I won't play as fast as you... :( :)

  • epic!

  • PS3 controller + MotioninJoy + VMidiJoy + MidiYoke/MidiOx + learning how to use these confusing programs = lpk25 w/ pitch bend/other controls. W/ ASIO drivers I don't notice any latency, but then again, I'm not as pro as this guy. Probably easier to use a made-for-PC controller, eliminating need for MotioninJoy.

  • You can use VMidiJoy to program a USB game controller to send a pitch bend signal, then combine that MIDI output and the lpk25 into one using MidiYoke and MidiOx. I got it to work with a Logitech joystick, but I'm still trying to get it to work with the PS3 controller.

  • awesome!

  • @ironwolg

You can see in the video that the low c is missing on the nanokey. I think I'm going to get the akai, just wish it had pitch bend.

  • OMG! your keys are melting!

  • i'm excited about getting a nanokey, they've gotten a lot of bad reviews but JR uses one and i trust his judgement. i love how they're so small and portable. have you had trouble with the keys falling off?

anyways, awesome playing, hopefully i'll be able to do that some day
