Me showing Virtua Fighter for the Sega 32X, which sports a great widescreen mode. The game is played on a Sega CDX, which technically isn't compatible, but works 100%.

  • ColdBeer, you don't use the plastic spacer, but what about the metal inserts?

I'm told the purpose of those were to shield interferencebetween the 32X and the Genesis. Were those not needed for the CDX, or are they not needed at all, but were something the makers provided and required unnecessarily?

  • @SwankeyMonkey Good questions.

The metal clips aren't necessary. The clips may be useful if you have a genesis model 1, as I've read that the 32x and model 1 have some type of interference. I don't use the spacers myself and have never had issues.

VF Remix beats the 32X version hands down. It's gorgeous and runs great. I like VF 32X more than fighters megamix, but thats just because I like the simplicity of VF.

The CDX bios looks like a normal Sega CD. Ill record it sometime.

  • Do you know if they sold the cdx spacer for the 32x? I've seen a picture of one in the manual but never a real picture.

  • @communistrecords No, as far as I know, they did not sell a spacer for the CDX. The only spacer is the one used to make the 32X fit onto a Model 2 Genesis. If the CDX was more popular, I expect they would have put the time into making the spacer and getting FCC approval. Unfortunately, the CDX didn't sell well and we have to rig together whatever we can (although it works just fine). Thanks for watching!

  • Really cool. Nights on Saturn also has this option.

  • @Garloz You're right - I understand that Nights, Nights Christmas and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei all have this option. I'm not sure which other games include it.

  • How do you like Saturn's Virtua Fighter Remix, and Fighter's Megamix in comparison?

I think it's funny that you prefer Virtua Fighter better on the 32X than the Saturn, because I way prefer Virtua Racing on the 32X than the Saturn's.

  • Also a little curious, what does the CDX's bios boot screen look and sound like? Is it the same as SEGA CD's Model 1 or Model 2, or Genesis?

  • thank you for that review. learned a lot there :)

  • Very cool. The CDX was and still is a sexy piece of work!! :P

@surefire1986 Yeah, I remember hearing about the majority of games for Sega consoles/arcades were designed for the 3:2 aspect ratio rather than the usual 4:3. So I guess high-def widescreen even back then wasn't all that far fetched.

  • I'm pretty sure the whole CDX/32X incompatibility myth was because it couldn't comply with FCC regulations regarding interference. Remember the metal bits they asked you to insert into your Genesis? That was part of the shielding, and the CDX didn't have anything for those metal bits to connect to.

  • Cool video, thanks for clarifying the whole CDX/32X issue.

  • @c0ldb33r That always bothered me. Course I guess if I want to give it more balance I could just use some legos or something.
