its a complicated situation the reverse also happens, in many reservations in New York State and Pennsylvania they sell cigarettes to non-Indian people at lower prices and this allows people to get around state tobacco taxes.....now nobody forces anyone to smoke OR drink, but in both cases its up to individual choices, just like all the lawsuits against McDonalds have failed

There is a ten mile buffer zone in which sale of alcohol is banned by an 1868 treaty, so clearly what these guys are doing is not legal... So I'm kinda confused as to why nothing has been done about this...

They don't have a choice. Life on the rez is so abysmal and hopeless that they are compelled to drink. Not drinking is almost impossible.

Ok so the reservation is talking about legalizing alcohol on the reservation so that it can help the youth be less vulnerable to alcohol but I still don't know about that because for some bootleggers it's a plus maybe???

Various ghettos throughout the US have even worse conditions than the reservations, yet do not have anywhere near the amount of alcoholism. There's more to this than poverty.
