Superfriends: The Incredible Crude Oil Monster (10/4/80)

Original Airdate: October 4, 1980.

During this season of Superfriends, each episode was split into three parts usually around seven minutes each. This short was the third short from the episode also featuring "One Small Step For Mars " & "Haunted House".


Aquaman & Hawkman & Hawkgirl take on a huge monster made of oil. This short like the previous episode's " Elevator To Nowhere" has sort of a Silver Age Brave & The Bold feel to it as it features a cool team-up between Aquaman and Hawkman & Hawkgirl.

@sabalouie2000 Being a long time reader from the 70s-80s-90s I remember this version of the Hawks were from the planet Thanagar and their masks had something that allowed them to breath in space briefly. They had spaceship and a number of their stories took place fighting alien threats.

@dwilmer7 You're crazy, he's great in this episode. He saved the Hawks from an oil suffocation and saved the ocean liner sailors from getting devoured by trying to take the thing on himself.

If anything the Hawks are the useless one-trick-ponies when they were on the show. They fly, that's it. At least when the writers had their shit together they remembered Aquaman has super strength and speed.

@MrColuber I think you're being a little hard on Aquaman;though it was Hawkman who figured out that the oil monster could be defeated with laundry detergent, Aquaman did rescue both Hawkman and Hawkgirl at 4:40 after they were swallowed alive by the oil monster. And where were the rest of the Superfriends (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, etc.)? Why didn't they help Aquaman and the Hawks battle the oil monster?
