  • I love opera but if you're going to sit there and down play Sarah Brightman for what she is doing wich is just sharing the gift that she was born with. Then I just have one thing to say to all of you.... STOP HATE'N !!! And stop hate'n on Andrea Bocelli too.. And again, I love Franz Volker, Licia Albanese, Ezio Pinza, Jose Carreras, Giannina Arangi-Lombardi and of course the great Pavarotti..But you'd probably say that he's a pop singer too.. STOP HATE'N!!!

  • there are 1000 better interpretations, but for ppl who like pop I think it works. Just doesn`t work for me.. at all. When you hit a note.. you hit it on the right pitch. Not slur to it.

  • @toby66615 Brightman has never seriously trained for opera. She herself said when asked about opera - this is an exact quote from her: "When asked about opera, Sarah said:

"Oh, I wish! I'm afraid I have perhaps half of the voice I would need. But, you know, having to find my own way to the music I love has led me to really find who I am and my own musical direction. So, although I once wanted to be the next Joan Sutherland, I think I've done alright!"

  • @arpeggio1358 What kind of soprano was Netrebko supposed to be, anyways? She reminds me of Renata Scotto(soprano leggero), who I also dislike.

  • @arpeggio1358

Back in the day, there were giant Wagnerian sopranos.

    Now there's just this shite.

    THAT LADY

please don't remind the world she exists.

  • @toby66615 As for some of the talent in opera today, there is way too much emphasis on looks, especially with the women. Have you heard Lise lindstrom? Pretty face, but with a voice that almost completely drops out in the middle register and screechy upper register.

  • @toby66615 Frankly, I don't like either one. As for Brightman, I don't like to see popera singers compared with real opera singers. As for Netrebko, I don't like what she's been doing to her voice in the past few years (like singing roles inappropriate for her voice) and I don't like the commercialization of her voice which she does nothing to stop.

  • @arpeggio1358

Well, I actually never called you a hater. I just said, don't hate.

They dont have to be paired. And i HATE brightman. I am an actual Brightman hater. But even I have to admit this is better than some of the talent in today's opera.

  • @toby66615 I'm no fan of Netrebko either, but she is an actual opera singer. She has made a mess of her voice in the last few years.

  • @toby66615 Sorry, but Brightman could never be an opera singer for many reasons, not the least of which is that she can't sing without a mic. She hasn't the voice or technique for opera. Stop calling me a hater. It's just a buzz word popera fans use to try to discredit people who disagree with them. Opera and popera are different genres and both have merit.

  • @arpeggio1358 Both are classically trained in opera.......especially Brightman......she just chose to pursue Broadway type-musicals instead.

And if you are going to be hating on people who are classical crossovers, why don't you hate on someone who actually is one, like Anna Netrebko, who couldnt sing in the right key if it sat up and slapped her?

  • @arpeggio1358. Yes I can understand where your coming from, but the fact of the matter is that there is just far to much negativity and critics in this world . But its my fault for reading the comments. I love Opera .. but also appreciate Popera. I have a very good friend who is an Opera singer and he and I get into this as well.. I just say if someone has the gift of voice it is up to them as to how they use it. And if it is appreciated then who are we to judge. Thanks for the reply. One.
