John Wycliffe-1330-1385 was the man who translated the Latin-Vulgate Bible into the early-middle English of the day in 1382. He died in 1385. In 1442 his remains were dug up&a trial was held for his translation work. His bones were burned until they were powder&dumped in some river. For over 1000 years the religious system did all it could to keep the Bible out of the hands of the common folk as well as most of the ministry as well.I read Wycliffe's life story..

The Bible has only been accessible to the common man for less han 500 years. The first mass produced Bibles were printed in 1525 in Belguim&smuggled into England.William Tyndale-1486-1542 was the first to use the printing press for Bibles. He was a hunted man, was caught, tried&executed in Brussels in 1542. His Bibles cost the common man a weeks wage. It took 10 months before to hand-write a Bible scroll.The Bible was under lock&key, even priest had no access for centuries. I read Tyndale'sstory
