Howto Unclog Your Home's Drain Vent

All of the drains in my house have been flowing slowly since I bought the place 5 years ago, it recently became worse. This is more evident when a lot of water is dumped, such as when flushing more than one toilet at once, taking a shower or running the washing machine. The toilets would gurgle and the bathtub would often backwash from the drain and fill the tub with sopay water from the washer.

This was frustrating, but it turns out the rooftop drain vent was clogged. Maybe a squirrel went down in there, or the excessive pine needles that always fall on my roof fell into there clogging up the vent.

A simple garden hose filling water from the rooftop vent was enough to push the clog through and allow the drains to perform normally again! This won't necessarily work for everyone, but give it a try and be careful!

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING BEFORE ATTMEPTING THIS!

Thanks for sharing the plumber's secret. Yes, you've saved homeowners at least $200. I didn't know you can do that to clear the drain. Does it work for very slow flushing toilet? One of my toilets is super slow flushing. If I take a dump, it won't flush at all. That's how bad it is. +1

@1989clamchowder It might work, won't know until you try it. Give it a shot. You may discover that there are some roots or something getting into your pipes causing the slowness also, in that case you'll have to have the pipe bored out or dig up and replace the pipe for a more permanent solution.

Great video, had this problem for awhile where the toilet would bubble when i showered, then the shower started to get backed up. Stuck a hose down the vent, flushed until the tub was about half way full with dirty water, leaves, and what appeared to be slime/sludge. Started to drain faster then i had ever seen it before. DUDE ,YOU R DUCKING AWESOME! I HAVE SPENT FOREVER SNAKING DRANO ETC.. THE SNAKE GOES THROUGH CLEAR , WATER WOULD'NT GO DOWN, I STARTED THINKING MAYBE THEIR WAS A VENT. SEARCHED YT AND WA LAA .BAMM. I AM BROKE AS A JOKE. YOU SAVED ME BIG TIME!

@twoheadz73 Hahaha! Simple as it is, that same problem got me twice. I need to put a screen over that thing, I think lizards, pine needless, and palmetto bugs are going in there and stopping it up. Thanks for the comment! :)

1. Checking for leaks? The first one was at the hose bib! haha

2. I think it is great you have A/C set up for the duck.

3. I bet he would like a bigger tub. Dig a hole, line it with heavy plastic and place rocks around the edge. You will see a big smile on his beak. :)

thank you thank you for saving me so much money. I had the same identical problem. For a month I tried the typical drano,plugging and even bought auger for30 bucks no luck. I followed your advice and went on the roof and ran the water for 15 minute in both vents success. Once again thank you brother.
