http://www.ted.com Autonomous cars are coming -- and they're going to drive better than you. Chris Gerdes reveals how he and his team are developing robotic race cars that can drive at 150 mph while avoiding every possible accident. And yet, in studying the brainwaves of professional racing drivers, Gerdes says he has gained a new appreciation for the instincts of professional drivers. (Filmed at TEDxStanford.)

i am fully aware of the urban challenge and the google car it has spawned, i'm just saying this particular autonomous vehicle isn't functionally autonomous. if you place a baby stroller in the middle of the road it'll just run it over. some neat research into high speed driving dynamics but it's not much use in the real world

it's a neat demo, but the car was essentially following a planned route, it was "blind" and didn't have the ability to sense things around it. it was replaying a script essentially. Not useful for the real world (yet)

What happens to the ghost in the machine? Will we see cars that prefer to park together? All are One. Indeed what does define consciousness.
