While I do like some of these vedic tricks, I think that there are definitely cases where better rules can be used. For instance, in multiplication: 48 x 52 = 50^2 - 2^2 is easier than the vedic way. Same goes for squares ending in other digits than 5; even though the vedic way works for all digits (with modification), but the 'normal' way is often quicker. I think one should know both systems and use the one which fits the context the best.

@rudge1982 , It is easy, if it exceeds 10 ,then, carry over the excess digit(s) and add to the next place!
