  • wow that's just awsome (crimson skies anyone?) =D

  • This is mind boggling if you think about it. Something so massive that not only flies but can actually launch planes from it as well as retrieve them. It's a shame that the airships couldn't stick around, they were darn cool.

True, true. In point of fact, the ONLY airships ever shot down were "flying solo." Poor pilots half-dead from the altitude could sneak up on the speeding Zeppelin's weak point-the tail- and concentrate incendiary bullets on the rearmost gas cell, possibly causing it to explode violently. It should be noted that some Zeppelins took thousands of bullets on raids and still limped back to Germany!

  • fuckn cool!!

  • @depholade so true man

  • @baoanhdaica123 They often flew at such a high altitude that they were difficult for fighter pilots to reach. Also, they were protected by their own fighters and guns aboard the ship. This was of course WWI. Airships almost became extinct due to the Hindenburg disaster, NOT the danger of enemy fighters.

  • @Hissanrach it's because it is a easy target for fighter planes
