  • Drummers are judged on their shuffles, most cannot do it well. Flexibility is key in this day and age.

  • Cool stuff but the mic is off? Audio while speaking is rather bad.

  • Good stuff but he looses it in a few places. Get out the metronome!

  • Thanks for a great video Phil. Simple and easy to practice, then apply. I appreciate your help.

  • @colrick1234 modern masters include Richard Innes, Charles "Honeyboy" Otis, Paul Rivelli, Marty Dodson, June Core, and Per Hanson.

  • Thank you, glad you liked it. I may get out there to TX one of these days P

  • As a bass player I love the four on the floor! (Casey Jones) Albert Collins man!!!

Your great...Move to Texas and you got work ;)

  • Phil, this is not a basic shuffle beat, its pretty advanced.

This is a Texas shuffle, a Chicago shuffle would be more basic and much easier for beginners.

  • F**kin beautiful man. Great playing and splainin'. Love that old Rogers kit too. This is one of the best drum instructional vids on the interwebs, I hope them kids are listenin.

  • cool...greatings from germany:o)

  • Very nice. This is pretty much the only instructional video for shuffles on youtube that actually shows the proper way to play a shuffle (which isn't a good thing -- it'd be great if all of the other teachers and players knew how to do this). The gig advice is also completely correct -- a musician with a blues background will never hire a drummer who can't play a real shuffle.
