Early one morning my fiancée called me downstairs to have a look at a bird of prey that had flown into our garden and was sitting on our fence. While I was grabbing my camera the bird caught a starling and took it into our neighbours' garden to tear it open. Standing on a kitchen chair in nothing but my boxers I pointed the camera over the fence and managed to get this footage.

  • I think that is a Sharp shinned hawk.

  • Thanks for the info - will look it up in my bird book.

  • I am sorry but that's not a Kestrel it is some type of accipiter. Maybe a coopers or sharp-shinned hawk if you are in the USA, or it could be a sparrow hawk if you are in Europe.

  • I'm in the UK, so it's probably a sparrow-hawk.

Sorry to offend any twitchers out there! :)
