The mother's life must always come first. But under certain circumstances where the mother may never make it out alive, the unborn offspring must be saved to prevent both deaths.

It is reckless endangerment for any doctor to use the conscience clause when a woman's life is in danger, and a doctor that gets a mother killed for using this excuse should be barred from ever performing on another patient, imprisoned for at least 10 years, and fined $500,000.

An abortion to save the mother's life should be one of the viable options even if it is to terminate a potential out-of-womb offspring.

  • Well there should be no reason to kill a baby because the focus will all be on the baby and not the mother, thats retarded! In a medical emergency, I believe you should do anything in your power to save both mother does come first but just don't assume the baby will die And if a doctor don't want to do an abortion he shouldn't have to! There are other ways to help mom than to do an abortion! He can put her to sleep and preform a c-section !No way is there a reason for partial birth abortion ever!

  • If the doctor refuses an abortion if that was the only way to save the woman's life over losing both, that doctor would have his license removed immediately. He failed to provide care for the mother under that circumstance given.

  • With today's modern science, it is never necessary to deliberately kill the unborn baby in order to save the mother's life. This includes the principle of double effect considerations.

  • Most of the time, our modern-day technology is capable of preventing abortions. However, in time critical cases, this technology cannot guarantee survival of our patient(s). If the woman's in the middle of massive blood loss, and the unborn child is still alive but also dying, circumstances must be considered. We do not want to see either die, but there is going to be this possibility. If we focus on keeping both alive equally, they may both die. Assessing a patient's situation must be quick.

  • I complelty deagree with this!

  • @tentrach A fetus isnt worth more than a grown woman. You must be off your rock or something!

  • if the mother will die its her choice whether or not to keep the baby back when abortion was illegal they still did emergency abortions in these extreme cases. However how often does this occur? Also people are under the false notion that birth is more dangerous than abortion when in fact you can find a list of young sometimes teenage girls who die in the abortion clinic. The body is designed to handle child birth in most cases. abortion is unnatural and not without risk if not death sterility.

  • @heroikrobb I know Doctors who have been in those very situations and did not have to do late term abortions! And I know many pro-life Doctors out there, and more and more new docs are turning away from doing abortions at all!

  • I completely agree with what you are saying, pro choice all the way.

  • this rosary person doesn't care to know that women die in scores here in the us alone from giving birth. why couldn't this "modern" technology save them?

  • when abortion becomes illegal so will a womans ability to defend her life against a pregnancy and birth that could kill her. just watch, wait, and see.

  • All i am saying is if mom needs to get baby out dead or alive, so she lives, then get it out but no need for any abortion methods

  • sorry i am a very bad a typing i didn't proof read before I proof read
