LYRICS:
Well I never lived my life, through other people's eyes
Guess I've always been, ridin' through storms twice my size
I've always been a drifter, guess I always will
Be runnin' toward a sunset, far side of some hill
And a one-man band, and a one man gypsy circus
Been finding every piece of this puzzle has a purpose
Drifting and dreaming, that must be my fate
To be grinning down my devils, Lord
Raising with aces and eights

And I was contrary to ordinary, even as a child
Fast freights made me wonder,
Full moons drove me wild
And stories do come true, you live life in episodes
With one eye on the ladies, now, and one eye still on the road

So when I die explain, don't put no tombstone on my grave
Just have ten of my friends, sail my ashes out on over the waves
Don't get no preaching down, just to tighten up the past
Just tell 'em all I liked to live, I loved to sing, dance, and to laugh

And I was contrary to ordinary, even as a child
Fast freights made me wonder
Full moons drove me wild
And stories do come true, you live life in episodes
With one eye on the ladies, now, and one eye still on the road

With one eye on the ladies, now
And one eye's always on that open road

  • What I really enjoy about Jerry Jeff Walker is his infectious zest for life and the way he includes us when he tells his stories.

He has such an abundance of charm.

    :)

  • ‎"And stories do come true, if you just live life in episodes" ...It suddenly dawned on me what these words mean. If I look at one day last summer as one episode...the day when she phoned and told me what she felt about me...my story did come true. Today doesn't matter if I look at it that way :-)

  • One of the best concerts I've attended was at the Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheater and featured Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark and Chris Wall. Got a witness!! I believe it was in July 90. What a place, what a show, what a time!

  • I have been listening to him since I was in college and that was 30 years ago. My dad told me he had a voice, we both graduated from UT and we both partied to JJF. In Marbale Falls I caught big catfish, listening to this guy. He is still the best! When I die I hope they play his songs but hell I am alive listening to him in Colorado!

  • Billy's a good one! -- It sounds like you know "Elwood" personally. -- If so, let me know. -- He & Melissa are dear friends... In fact we spent a good part of last year together & he would play new songs for me the day he wrote them... He even wrote a few on my front porch. -- Great Talent!!!

  • JERRY JEFF you till this date are still awesome

  • I caught this show when it came out on Austin City Limits late 80s captured it on vhs one of my all time favorites followed by Lowden Wainwright 3 what a show
