The conservation area behind our home floods whenever it rains giving us a nice pond. Turtles of all kinds come up from a nearby creek to feed on whatever, sliders, muds, snappers, and box turtles. This particular turtle, a female 3-striped mud turtle, has been coming up for about five years now and comes straight to me whenever I show up with food. Her boyfriend was nearby but was a bit put off by the camera. This is the same spot where I feed a snapping turtle, it was not around when I shot this particular video.

  • i would love to have that kind of relationship with a wild turtle

  • @TheUniquelyXtreme I feel lucky living where I do where that is possible. Am pretty friendly with this one mud turtle and also a much larger snapping turtle. So naturally I worry about them.

  • what state is this?

  • @LogeranoushesTurtles Florida.

  • thanks, also many times a week you feed your turtles? i do 3 or 4 times a week.

  • @ctafrank hard to control since I feed the fish every day and the turtles eat some of the fish food. They occasionally pick off a ghost shrimp or even munch on some anacharis. I mostly try to control the quantity and let them eat frequently. Once in a while I let them gorge on some shrimp or fish or even live earthworms. Most turtle experts say to feed adult turtles maybe 3 or 4 times a week, feeding them well each time.

  • Cool i love these under water feeding videos.

  • thanks, my mud loves earthworms more then any other food , goes right for them. fastest i ever seen her move. love the videos.

  • @ctafrank I buy my shrimp from the supermarket. It is wild caught, frozen, with shell. No reason you can't find it up there.

  • not sure if i can find wild shrimp in NYC for my 3 striped mud. can i get fish for the supermarket? if so, which to buy? thanks
