Harper Conservatives say Canadians are willing to pay for Mega-Prisons

Feb. 4, 2011 - House of Commons - Liberal MP Mark Holland & Conservative MP Dave MacKenzie. Mark Holland says mega-prisons are a complete and utter disaster. Dave MacKenzie it's just the cost of keeping Canadians safe, and that Canadians are willing to pay it.

They need more prisons because the definition of a "criminal" has changed. More and more people are being locked up for victimless crimes. I don't even smoke weed and I'm offended. I know fine people who could be spending time in shiny new jail cells. Great country, eh?

@omega4chimp FYI: our government has tried to pass a Bill that would give mandatory minimum for growing 6 cannabis plants... the cons. don't like cannabis (as a medicine) they've proved it by trying to built more prisons to house more cannabis growers/users. i say it's time to end the prohibition of cannabis. and stop criminalizing cannabis... just like alcohol, it's time to legalize it! then organize crime will have less funds to buy guns... if you're Canadian, educate yourself before you judge
