Sabrage Around the World continues, this time from Paradise Hills. A small suburban community in San Diego, CA. For this sabrage attempt, I use a Knights of Columbus sword and a bottle of sparkling non-alcoholic champagne. Some people like to use sparkling champagne or cider for their sabrage. The first sabrage attempt misfired and is edited out of this sabrage video. The second sabrage attempt succeeds. Listen to how clean it sounds when the sabrage does succeed and the saber rings as the neck of the champagne bottle separates and flies off into the distance. Ah yes, sabrage. It's a good feeling.
To perform a successful sabrage, make sure the Champagne or sparkling wine is well chilled.
Find one of the two vertical seams running up the sides. You will aim for the spot on the bottleneck where the seam meets the lower lip as that is the weak point.
Angle the sparkling champagne bottle around 30 degrees and pointed away from nearby people, animals, windows..etc.
Take the saber in your other hand and lay the blade flat (you may use the sharp or blunt edge, we like to use the blunt edge for sabrage) just below the lip of the bottle. With the blade aimed at the annulus, take a couple of slow-motion practice swings to get a feel for the strike.
