"We're Not Going Home": When she was just 12 Mo Nom Tee Kham's family fled their native Burma to Thailand, where Mo Nom moved from an orphanage to a refugee camp and worked low paying jobs as an undocumented immigrant. With help from the International Rescue Committee, she and her family resettled in New York three years ago. Now she's studying on a merit scholarship at Dickinson College, where her favorite class is Education and Democracy.
In the second episode of a new IRC podcast series, Mo Nom learns from her political activist father that the family's "vacation" in Thailand may just be permanent. Not long afterward, she's separated from her parents and experiences first-hand the wrenching uncertainties of life as a refugee.

  • I am really impressed by your words!

  • cute girl.

  • For IRC, you have done a good work, but you should tell US and UK, because they always complain about this and act like world police, but they never help

    US slogan

"No crude oil, NO HELP, My friend!!!"

  • THEY SAID MUCH BETTER HERE AND WE DIDN'T HAVE TO GIVE HALF OF OUR HARVEST TO BURMESE ARMY.

Therefore they know they will get a low paid job. Tell me why thai will employ you, when getting the same or higher paid!!!

Blame your dad!!! He knew all along, but he didn't wanna tell you, because you were too young and used to live in comfortable life.

  • Half people in my town who are from shan state. Their language and culture are very similar to us (chiang mai). My uncle is thai bored shan. That is why my family were sorry for them. My uncle now hate shan from burma. He said they only cared about themselve. They have so many people, but they don't fight for themselves and want people to feel sorry for them. I once asked them why you didn't fight with burmese instead of living here with low paid job.

  • It is true that Thais are bad to Burmese, shan and mon...However Burmese, shan and mon from burma need to blame themselves for being untrusted. From truth experience, 2 shan families worked with us12 years ago and we treated them like family. We gave small land to them, so they could have extra income. We even ask the local school to accept their kids to study without document. But they robbed us when my family went to bangkok and disappeared.Police couldnt find them, because they had no document.

  • hi i am min soe thai is very bad for burmar or mon people

  • Welcome to America!

  • Woooow!refugees life is better than our life...

  • For once, General Than Shew makes an intelligent remarks. Hey kidding. I mean you are right.
