A reading of Betjaman's poem about childhood innocence. If it makes you feel a little uncomfortable then it might be reassuring to remember he was much beloved, knighted and made Poet Laureate - Bussock Bottom, Tussock Wood and Windy Break notwithstanding.

  • Why on earth would this poem make one feel "uncomfortable", one wonders.

  • I remember hearing my English teacher reading this to our English Literatute class maybe 45 years ago. I loved it then and poetry has been meaningful for me ever since. Thank you Mr. Betjeman and thank you Miss Williams.
