GeekBoy's instructional video about Dysgraphia, and how he has overcome many of the struggles it brings.
** Dysgraphia is the impaired ability to learn to write. That can mean physical difficulties with writing as well as a mental block between the brain and fingers.
If you think your child may have Dysgraphia, first watch *how* he writes. Check the following:
1. posture
2. grip
3. position
4. pivot
5. Straight wrist (not curled over)
5. pull-not-push (meaning forming his letters from the top down, not bottom up).
If all that is good, see if he can think and write at the same time. Does he have trouble making up stories as he writes it? Can he copy just fine, but has trouble thinking of what he wants to write next? If you just tell him to write down anything he wants, is it the same sentence, or almost the same every time?
I'm not a doctor, just a mom who's done her research & developed some techniques to help her son, because I also have Dysgraphia. GeekBoy & I hope this video helps you.
Thank you for sharing your experience with Dysgraphia. I think my 6 year old has this so I am going to show it to him. Keep up the good work! Great job on making the video :)

I just started a job, which I work with strengthening underlying cognitive difficulties in children, and my first student will have Asperger's and dysgraphia. Your testimonial, Geekboy, has given me great ideas for my lessons with him. Thanks so much for your advice and keep up the great work!

Thank you for sharing!! What a testament to the power of personal empowerment!! Simply by understanding, identifying, and problem solving, you were able to restore your son's faith in his own capability. Kudos to you Mom!! I'm currently working on my Master's in Reading. I am doing research on Dysgraphia. Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you for this. We've struggled with my eldest for ages to write and I really think looking at this video it's what she has. We're going to try and implement all of these stratagies and hopefully writing won't be the huge emotional experience it is now!
She also has dyslexia so has double whammy by the looks of it, poor girl.
