  • You slowed down for the warm air demo, but the difference isn't audible on YouTube...I agree that a warm, less edgier sound can be generated by keeping the throat open and, unlike blowing warm air (where you really can't play the flute while blowing), you can practice clearing your throat, which opens the larynx and also play at the same time. It is how the arabic language produces gutterals sounds. If you can say a 'rayin with a true gutteral, you can produce an open, warm sound on the flute.

  • . Besides whatever you do with the rest of your body, there is one very simple action that changes the temperature of the air and that is the position of your jaw. Put your hand infront of your mouth like you show in your video. Start blowing cold air, and then gradually lower your jaw (like changing the form of the cavity of your mouth from "e" to "o", and you will feel the air warms up immediately.

  • My teacher tells the same. And I can hear the difference and even produce the difference myself. :)

  • I can totally hear that and I honestly never thought that there was a difference but now knowing this I will practice this more often instead of doing it by mistake like before.

  • I 've had years of lessons given by what I thought were good teachers. all competent performers. None was able to explain the nitty gritty of flute playing like Nina. I always felt that If I didn't "stumble" onto the right technique I would never make it, and I never did. With Nina, I know what to do to progress and succeed. Thank God and thank Nina!

  • wow, i can totally tell the difference. it even sounds more wood instrument-like

  • how you convert that??...

  • it helped buzz the lower notes

  • i could hear the difference.thanks for the tip

  • Damn,, cold air and hot air you're still good at this . =)

btw the video ending was a bit abrupt for me hehe

  • Thanks so much for posting these lessons. They have really helped to improve my playing.
