The year is 408 AD. The crumbling empire of Rome is giving way before the onslaught of barbarian nations. Most of the Roman legions have left Britain in support of Constantine III, their self-proclaimed emperor. The modern age of reason is over — the Dark Ages are settling in for a long night. Maroc the Mage is a lore seeker. He travels, gathering knowledge of the old ways, and is learned in the subtle arts of herbs and healing. One night while orating one of his collected rhymes, The Legend of Avalon, an old woman throws back her head and foretells a new age of chaos. The air chills as she speaks of the dreaded Lord of Chaos, once again leading the Wild Hunt across the night sky, stealing the corpses of the dead. She points to Maroc and tells him to go to the Isle of Glass. Taking him aside, she gives him an old oak staff with an iron head bound to one end, and two old maps. There is Avalon! she cries as she laughingly leaves, pointing to a hill rising in the distance.

The fearful villagers guide Maroc to the island by way of a causeway. It is midnight. Maroc is abandoned in the darkness whilst his guides scurry away. He sits down and recalls the nights events. He doesnt have long to wait...

This is the best thing Ive seen in arcade/adventures with the mystic qualities of adventures and the graphics of arcade. Avalon is the best blend between the two yet. The 3D effect is excellent (though a little jerky, but who cares when it is this good)? Overall, there is a lot to do in the game which means that interest will be held. I would personally recommend that a map be drawn to aid progress as I soon became lost without one. I think Hewson have produced a likely adventure cult game.

Has anyone ever found what is behind the locked door a couple of rooms from the start?

This door opens if you wait outside for a while and a wraith comes out. If you manage to enter the game blocks. That´s wierd, like the useless fish that drains your life.

Eres un crack Raindog!!! Qué clasicazo, lo recuerdo con muchísimo cariño ya que fue de los primeros juegos que pude ver en un Spectrum. Lástima que no le saqué gran partido porque siempre me pareció muy difícil y no sabía bien qué hacer.

Por cierto...lo tengo repetido en original, si quieres uno te lo regalo. Ya sabes donde encontrarme.

Gracias Don por visitar ese espacio tan friki de youtube. Este juego para mi supuso un antes y un despues, con todas sus imperfecciones me abrio un mundo nuevo respecto las posibilidades de los juegos.

Yo tenia originales tanto el Avalon como el Dragontorc, pero mi madre en cuando ve algo con dos milimetros de polvo lo cataloga como tirable asi que...

The Legend Of Avalon as for me is the best spectrum game i have ever played. Excellent compination of graphics, atmosphere and playability. Also this could be the 1st graphical rpg game...

I have some questions on U:

In this level there is a door i am not able to open situated in the 4th room from the start. What is behind? For what is the fish-like item?

And the last one: what kind of emulator did U use, which one is the best for U (Win)?

That door can be open just waiting by its side. After a while a wraith comes out and you get the chance to come in, but if you do the game blocks.

The fish drain your energy, and that´s all. At least i cannot find any use for it.

For me the best emulator is Spectaculator 7.0. But isnt free, so...you can get ZX32 instead.

I do remember playing this for hours and hours trying to figure out what was what. I do also remember that the spirit ghost that appears on the wall can be used for putting stray items into. Sometimes the reward would be mainly spells. Sometimes (I think) other items - from what i remember. Was 12 years old at the time in the mid 80s.

Sloppy gameplay! Always brush up against the door of the room you're leaving, it shuts it, giving you time to flee the goblins etc! Sorry, flashback to 1980s there lol

@raindog108 I must be running a later version where they patched it, I killed the warlock so he didn't keep popping up and bothering me, sat in the room for ages with the emulator running at 20 x speed and nothing comes out of that door.

I did start a remake of this using a 3D engine, got a few rooms and items together but it was turning my brain into a pretzel...

Wonderful to see again. I got this for Xmas in 1984 when I was 11 years old! I liked it, but found it far too difficult and fand didnt get far before I gave up...

Very nostalgic, but thank god gaming progressed from those times of the unforgiving 8bit machines, and we can actually complete games nowadays..
