Diving Sipadan

Diving at Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai and Semporna in Sabah, Malaysia Feb-Apr 2005.

Filmed when I worked as a Dive Instructor at Uncle Chang, Semporna.

- Sipadan: A small island surrounded by large coral reefs and steep walls sloping down to 600m. All the resorts on the island were recently closed down for conservational reasons. The marine life on the reefs is abundant and includes turtles (often see more than 20 on one dive), sharks (white-tip, grey reef, leopard, hammerhead), manta rays, napoleon wrasses, octopus and huge schools of fish (including barracuda, trevally, humphead parrotfish).
- Mabul: An inhabited island with more shallow reefs. Depending on the dive site, regularly spotted species are turtles, various nudibranches, colorful flatworms, frogfish, pipefish, mandarinfish, crocodile fish, cuttlefish, moray eels, batfish, schooling yellowtail barracudas, humphead parrotfish, lobster, shrimps, octopus and almost the whole scorpionfish family.
- Kapalai: A sand bank between Sipadan and Mabul. The site has similar diving to Mabul.

Apocalyptica with Faraway from the 2003 album Reflections.

Apocalyptica is a band from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists and, since 2003, a drummer. Three of the cellists are graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Their music features elements from classical music, neo-classical metal, thrash metal and symphonic metal.

We were living at Lee Guesthouse in Semporna. Very good value for money!

Stayed in Semporna and dived Sipadan from February to April 2005. Should be good diving all year round, but not really sure when the best time is.

OMG i want to go to SIpadan or Mabul someday!!!So many corals down there!!!!More diverse than the west malaysian side as i only see loads of acroporas at Tioman.....not much corals with large polyps or what they call it LPS.
