Search 97markviii username. He has a great video that shows great acceleration with minimal mods. I may convince you yet. ;)

As far as the performance, I have been neck and neck with an SCT tuned Mercury Marauder on the road with the Mark VIII, but keep in mind, although it is quick, it is also heavy. With about $5000 worth of mods though next spring, my goal is 5 seconds flat to 60. They have potential with the Cobra engine block but desperately need better gearing etc. Heck, you can get a Mark VIII for a good price these days....you should check 'em out. ;) They can run to 60 in under 7, and 4.10s alone 6 seconds.

The Mark VIII weighs almost as much as the Townie actually, but is quite nose-heavy. Most of the weight is towards the front and even the gas tank sits within the wheelbase. You would even have a tough time fitting a set of 12" subs in the trunk of the Mark VIII. The tail end is very stubby, and with almost 300 hp at the rear wheels and an open differential, the Mark VIII has a hell of a time in wet or snowy conditions. A traction-lok unit is the first of my many mods and much needed.
It is a 1991 Lincoln Town Car Executive with 136,000 miles. I have driven the Mark VIII on rare occasion on a snowy road and it is absolutely HORRIFIC. The Townie, despite it also being rear wheel drive, has more chassis weight on the tail-end and therefore is really not that bad in the snow with good tires. I love driving it, but I also can't wait for spring every year. ;)

nice, mines a 94 i got 68,000 on it and it's also and Ececutive series... and damn i'll bet the Mark VIII were really light and very fast, and really i thought it would be really bad in teh snow due to the torque it has a good amount of torque... i have good tires.. but it doesnt snow here much anyways... yeah its a great all season car than.. especially in the summer, great Air conditioning, great smooth ride...

Yes they are. ;) My Townie is my winter car, and up here in Minnesota it gets below zero. I remote start it from in my Townhome and it starts every time. I have never had starting issues even in the dead of winter! That is quite impressive when it is outside during a Minnesota winter. I like getting into a warm car. This and the ride quality put a smile on my face every time I drive it.

damn.. i heared Minnesota winters are brutal on all cars... and it starts everyday.. damn.. how much miles do you got?? and what year is yours?? i live in Maryland and it gets pretty cold around here but my car will always start no matter how cold or snowy.. Ford makes some great cars.. i drive mine everyday.. makes a great daily driver.. pretty good on gas.. reliable, great ride.

Here is what I mean: Do another video from the rear of the Townie, and just step on it from a dead stop with no brakes at all on dry pavement. And I wanna see NO brake lights in your video. Do that and I will be impressed. I have yet to see an older town car roach them from a stop with no brakes at all. The power to weight ratio is at a disadvantage for the Townie. I own both a Mark VIII and a Townie and there is just no performance with the Townie. Good cruiser and comfy. That's it.

yeah i think your prolly right about that the weight is very veyr heavy.. but if you step on it on the highway it get up and goes pretty good... it goes alot better than alot of cars smaller and have almost the same HP. good cars tho..
