Remember, Otto Klemperer and Walter Legge hand-selected the members of the Philharmonia/New Philharmonia Orchestra, and when EMI Ltd. dissolved the Philharmonia, the members were so distraught that Dr. Klemperer put up his own money to keep the orchestra going. The orchestra members were elated with his decision.
OK also gave whisky and cigarettes to orchestra members he personally liked; thus, he could afford to be grouchy, but the end justifies the means.
