Gloria and I were fascinated by this short on TCM, just a time-filler between movies. Mackinac Island hasn't changed a whole lot since 1944, when this movie was produced, but it's still as beautiful as ever.

  • My wife and I enjoyed the blacksmith shop. It's where we rent horses for our daily rides when we're there. We laughed that the blacksmith in the video is wearing a tie....

  • Very cool to see!

  • Thank-you for posting this. If you happen to have any more of these FitzPatrick shorts, I'd love to see them. They're virtually impossible to see outside the U.S.

  • That's odd... because all the locals told me that the island can be called Mackinaw or Mackinac. There was even a little booklet that explained the names... =|

  • Amazing to see a community that was never destroyed by the automobile. Long live human powered transit.

  • very recognizable

  • Just really cool to look back.Sure lot less people and places back then, now can hardly see the island itself for all the shops and whatnot.

  • Great old video

  • Wow! This video was awesome to watch. Thanks for sharing this.
