This DeLorean Time machine is part of the Studio tour at Universal studios Hollywood. The "A" Car (seen here) was used for principal photography in the Back to the Future films.

This car (along with two others) were originally built by Kevin Pike and Filmtrix Inc for the first film. (see Filmtrix.com) the builds were supervised by Michael Scheffe and designed by Andrew Probert and Ron Cobb. After the first film was shot, the car was then put on display in the Universal theme park for about 2-3 years, by then many parts had been removed from the car. Some for safety, others...for souveniers...

The car was then restored, slightly modified and brought back up to speed by Michael Lanteri's Special Effects team for the shooting of Back to the Future's sequels.

After the last two films in the saga were completed, the car was put back on display in Universal for years, restored mechanically in 2000 by DMC Calfornia. it was to be driven around the park. After that it was left to sit and rot. Thankfully, fans have been keeping it alive, some even going to the extent to add new parts to help maintain the visual integrity of this most special skyway flyer.

  • Knight 3000 @ :17. Not quite KITT in my book but still cool to see. Big fan of both Knight Rider and BTTF.... would love to meet Michael Scheffe someday (he designed the BTTF DeLorean and original KITT).

  • @arrowguy173

Yeah, it's not just a standard looking car like KITT. It's quite a bit more special. ;)

  • I hate the way Universal just has all those classic cars just sitting out in the open like that. They should be in a museum.

  • @Kaffyboy

As do I, but it is nice that they are on display for the public...then again they don't stop the tram long enough usually for you to get a good look.

Hopefully one day Universal will realize the damage that's being done to their #1 Hero car - DeLorean.

    Take care,

    -Spencer

Actually it's Stainless Steel, but yes. It won't rust.

  • @bttfspencer the car is aluminium so its fine sat outside wont rust!

  • @bttfspencer i'll have it soon sometime

  • My favorite part of the Universal Studios Hollywood tour, is anything BTTF. I do get sad, when the tram passes Lyon Estates markers, and some of the tour guides neglect to mention them... My husband is a Universal tram DRIVER, and showed me where the old TOP of the clock tower from BTTF is on the studio tour. They removed it when "Ghost Whisper" started filming. The tram makes a right @ the Lyon Estates markers, & passes some beige offices. LOOK QUICK ~The clock is down a path to the LEFT.

  • @bttfspencer Yeah, I know! I would have loved that the tram would stop long enough to have a good look. It also wizzed passed the Psycho house as well
