This video demonstrates how to use JA2DAPI's new CollisionMapScroller API to auto-generate a collision surface based solely on a rendering of the level.
In other words, you simply pass in an image of the level and the CollisionMapFactory creates a machine readable collision map based on the transparency in the image. Anything opaque is foreground/collidable and anything transparent is not.
This allows you to create more natural and visually-appealing levels, compared to the popular tile-based foreground generation approach.
I offer my apologies for the poor quality of the screen captures of the game. Capturing OpenGL is not easy. The game demo is actually very smooth.
