For 50 years NASA has led the world in space exploration. Much of the scientific knowledge about the moon, our solar system and the universe has come from the dedicated scientists, administrators and personnel working for NASA. VOA's Paul Sisco takes a look at the agency celebrating its golden anniversary with an eye on its uncertain future.

  • we dont need anymore manned flights to space, its a waste of money. The telescopes we have now are all we really need. There are too many needs in this country that need to be addressed first like hunger, poverty, medicines, disaster response etc.

  • Fucking politicians. They prefer to waste $700 billion on military to invade defenseless countries rather than increasing NASA's pathetic 0.6% (about $9-15 billion) of the federal budget.

  • If people think we are allowed (In body form) on other planets, think again. These people are really in for a shock if they think they are going to populate another world and screw it up like they did this one. Otherwise, your just going to orbit around this one. Lack of money? Ask Rome. They made the system for you and your NASA.

  • i wanna visit NEPTUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

  • I think we should start doing missions like Voyager or Pioneer again.

We barely have ANY information on Uranus,Neptune, and all the drawf planets behind it.

We got money to launch 107 Multi-Million dollar missiles into Libya though!

  • we need to inest more in space. If perhaps we invested more, perhaps we could have avoided or at least reduced the effect of the crisis.

  • all civilization over the globe need to get their poop in a group, throw politics and disagreements out the window, work together on a plan, and further explore the human dream which is the heavens.

  • The primary reason for the existance of nasa is space warfare in my opinion. as for the 6/10ths well he should have just said 60%

  • @Veronhawk for a rocket guy, his math must either be really bad, or he think we are all idiot who can't do understand 3/5... =)

  • the space program is very important to me, but Id rather be friends with the Russians over anything else (as opposed to them bieng our "enemies for so long...)
