Petra is 4 years old, and her Rush Hour skills amaze me.
A long time ago, my cousin, Dean, brought this game to our (my parent's) house. I thought it was a cool logic puzzle game, and when I saw it at a thrift store this past summer, I bought it to put on my office desk. I've only gotten up to card #15 so far. I haven't been putting much time into it.
This past weekend, we were at a different thrift store. They had the same game for $0.50. I couldn't leave it there at that price. When I got it home, the girls were interested in it. Ava (7 years) was working on it, but Petra kept trying to reach in and move the pieces. I figured that she was just annoying Ava by wanting to do anything her sister did.
To settle them down, I said that Petra could get a chance when Ava was done. When Petra had her chance, I didn't pay any attention. She did it and wanted me to set up the next one. She "solved" a few, but I figured she didn't follow the rules. She likes to play games by her own rules. It didn't matter, she was playing nicely by herself. Over the next couple days, My wife and Ava had been telling me that she was doing them on her own. She was even further along than I was, now.
My wife claimed she was playing correctly. Ava claimed she was cheating. I wanted to find out, so I watched her play and recorded a few of her attempts. Sure enough, she's a Rush Hour prodigy. No cheating. Take a look.
