Note: The dulcimer is an ancient instrument described in the bible as "the 10-stringed instrument" used in the praise of God. When Jamestown was settled in 1607, the ship's manifest included a dulcimer as being brought to the new world for much the same purpose. In colonial times, the dulcimer was commonly found in even the most humble homes, and it was not until the early 1900's that the piano supplanted the dulcimer in American homes.
