@luvorange1 > that's nice in theory. I don't mean to offend but, the reality is people outside our ethnicity might not mind but they don't live our houses, go to our churches or school, or our blocks, etc. It's easy to say it shouldn't matter when you're outside the race (and it SHOULDN'T) but for now, people inside the race treat others inside the race in our homes, schools, etc act like it does. It matters to those of us who get called "too dark" or "too light." It matters because it hurts.

Most darskinned people especially in the states have this issue.Carribean people dont really have this problem in mass numbers like america.Africans treat me real nasty and short and i catch them staring at my skin alot.Darkies are fucked up in the head.Cant say that i care they dislike me or sabotage me behind me back...ive learned to stay away. Its really sad.

OMG i thought i was the only one in the world that would compare my hand with another persons and try to see who was lighter. lmao. im brown skin tho.

thanks for being brave enough to talk about this issue...in my fam everyone is light skinned so i never understood the light/dark skinned issue until i got outside of the house...this stuff is real serious and ppl can be ruthless when it comes to sumthin as simple as skin tone

People associate being darkskinned black with being african and africans by most people are seen as being backwards, primitive, violent,et
c.Thats the main issue and then reality is the tv and media is dominated by white people worldwide almost and they put white features on a pedestal and when they feature blacks its usually darkerskinned in negative light (especially the males) and lighterskinned is almost always positive lights(especially the females)Even when its black authored media. -
This was a great video. I am of dark complexion, but my parents (especially my mother) always made a special name like "hey little pretty chocolate daughter of mine" or "dark and lovely." It kind of hurt hearing others say negative comments about you, and take it to heart not know as a kid they only did it: to make themselves look good, because others were saying it to them (most of the people were dark skin), or because you had something in you they wanted for themselves.

I really appreciate this video. I am "light" and my brothers are "dark'. My boyfriend is chocolate and I am totally addicted to his color. I think it is beautiful.
Dude, take off that stupid hat and braids. It's 2010, get a new style.

i apploud you for being open and honest about your experience because people think the whole color complex thing doesn't effect men but it does, and especially at a young age where many girls fawn over light-skinned boys refering to them as "pretty boys" when a brown or dark-skinned guy can be even better looking but not given his props because of his skin tone, the problem IS VERY deep rooted and even in 2009 there are ADULTS who still carry one, i honestly don't when this will stop : (

Your right, but I guess the problem will stop when parents start telling their children how beautiful they are from young

Sadly, I used to target people darker than me and make jokes about them... I (i didn't have much room to talk) I remember one corny thing I said. I told a dark skinned girl that when she takes a bath the water turns to Tea....In elementary school that was bad...I feel mean now.
dunte86 3 years ago
lmao @ Tea...but I know how it is, I used to look for an excuse to call someone darker than me...quick ego booster...bad conditioning I tell you
