So there is this company that I would really like to work for ( for some strange reason ) It may be a sort of Calling for me, but It can be a lot of fun, and really gives you the sense of being your own person. Recycling - Its outdoors, freelance, and can have potential if you know the right people.

Newport metals is a multi-million dollar company that takes in your prepped' metals for a cash trade. Metals like tin - Copper, Aluminum , to whats considered #1 Steel . All having different price ranges, Tin actually being one of the least which is about 15 cents a pound (like a washing machine).
Its all based on weight in this business, so having "a ton" of steel can be really promising. I think over the course of 2 weeks or so , Kevin and I had accumulated over 39 thousand pounds of metal including, but not limited to : trucks and cars.
A ton is 2 thousand pounds. We had lifted/and moved approx. 20 ton in metal in what is considered a half ton truck :) Thats impressive, though the gas mileage says other wise ;)
Unfortunately, it is a growing occupation in Maine/Newport area, leaving the prices to a big decline as more and more people come in to recycle their metals, but who can blame them.. After dumping off 2 tons of metal, you really make out like Bandits.

  • We have a real problem with "Recyclers" in the UK.Everything made of metal, even if its bolted down gets stolen.Manhole covers, electrical cabling, old cars (usualy someones wanted property) and items of historical interest, all get stolen and end up in the local scrapyard.I'm all for keeping the environment tidy only it offers big opportunities for the criminal fraternity and the gypsies. It pisses me off when you get people wandering onto your proprty looking for "scrap" to steal.

  • @silver760 Oh I have heard of a story where metals from a church roof were stolen, and stories similar! The same happens here but, a little less grandiose; copper piping from plumbing, or even house frames stolen right under their noses.

  • Looks like you are doing it right!! We had an old camper behind our house (in Maine), and my boyfriend busted it up using his Jeep to tug at is from every direction. Hmm, that was 2 years ago and some of the mess is still out there. I say : DO It Right the FIRST time!!! Looks like you are!

  • @mainlynancy If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it again ? Thanks for sharing!
