Activities for children of all ages were featured at the Lewis University Mini-Campus during Kidzfest 2010, a family festival in Joliet featuring entertainment, activities and events. Free and open to the public, Kidzfest was held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7 in downtown Joliet.

Children played, explored, imagined and created at the annual Kidzfest Celebration. Kidzfest sponsors include Lewis University, the Joliet City Center Partnership, City of Joliet—Visitors Bureau, AT&T, and Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Children earned an "aviator wings pin" by completing entertaining and educational experiences at four of the multiple Lewis exhibits. Among the activities were:

•Sit in a small airplane (digital web photos optional), courtesy of Lewis Aviation.
•Get photo IDs taken by students in the Lewis Criminal/Social Justice Program.
•Enjoy video games provided by the Computer Science department.
•Become a scientist through chemistry and biology experiments. Fun includes concoctions that experiment with everyday materials!
•See yourself on television by visiting an electronic media van and see how a news program is created by the Lewis Communications department.
•Get blood pressures and pulse screenings for children and adults from the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Also, adults can undergo blood sugar testing and receive information on hypertension and diabetes awareness. Children also may join in games that will be fun and test their motor skills.
•Enter into the world of Dr. Seuss with student performers from the Lewis Philip Lynch Theatre presenting songs from "Seussical" at the outdoor stage.
•Learn a lesson in finances from the Lewis College of Business, which offered fun money facts, games and prizes.
•Choose from designs and get a new look at the Face Painting booth.
•Enjoy Dr. Seuss stories, read by future teachers attending the Lewis College of Education.
•Improve athletic skills with tips from student athletes on sports including basketball, volleyball, and softball/ baseball.

Among those also presenting exhibits, demonstrations and activities for those attending Kidzfest were the Joliet Park District, Joliet Public Library, Will County Forest Preserve District, Rialto Square Theatre, and the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Highlights along with Lewis activities will include pony rides, a petting zoo, a magic show, a folk singer, and DJ activities.

Members of the Lewis University faculty and staff from communities in Will County and surrounding areas have united to work on the Kidzfest Committee.
