portholes and the drill instructors

Where: Camp Fuji Japan, inside the squad bay. First floor. Cadets were housed in a Vacant squad bay.

Who: The person being chewed out was a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) cadet. At this camp they're are Navy and Marine Cadets. The Marines yelling are active duty, junior enlisted from PFC to Lance Corporal. They are not drill instructors. They are motivated young marines who either want to be drill instructors in the future, or they simply want to do something other than work. I will admit living on Camp Fuji Japan gets boring, being a staff member gave some young Marines something to pass time with.

When: June 2006. Camp lasted 1 week.

Why: Cadets knew what to expect months before this camp ever happened. They volunteered for it. We made sure they knew exactly what to expect. They go because it gives them a first glance impression of phase 1 of USMC basic training. These cadets also gain rank upon they're return to high school in late August. A Cadet who attended this camp will gain rank faster than a Cadet who did not attend.

How: Two DODDS (Department of Defense Dependent School's) schools worked together to have cadets attend this camp every summer. MC Perry High school and E.J. King High school's are American school's that support the U.S. military child overseas in Japan.

You are right society does have many "highly placed members" but let me tell you I live well and happy.
