@dcbandnerd He did -- he'd done it in 1965 I think -- but the mainstream media were VERY slow to accept it. Especially the sporting media. If you think the media have problems with non-WASP surnames now, they were much worse then. This was right about when the media in Pittsburgh finally stopped referring to the Pirates' Hall of Fame right fielder as Bob Clemente. Why not? He'd only been on the team since '55! lol
