Jabari Parker v Wayne Blackshear: Simeon 52, Morgan Park 45: #6 Morgan Park disturbed undefeated Simeon's offensive rhythm, rallied when they fell behind and twice in the 4th quarter seemed poised to overtake Illinois' #1 team.
Simeon's 6-7 sophomore forward Jabari Parker scored a game-high 14 pts, made several key plays down the stretch and helped limit Morgan Park's Wayne Blackshear to 2 2nd-half pts. Host Simeon, ranked #3 nationally by USA Today, outlasted the defending champion MP 52-45 in an exciting Public League playoffs 2nd-round showdown on the South Side.
Right after a step-back 3-pointer by Billy Garrett completed a 9-0 Morgan Park run and cut Simeon's lead to 42-41 with 5:58 left, Parker calmly knocked down a 15-footer off one foot to put Simeon (22-0) up by 3.
Morgan Park (15-6) had a chance to pull within one again with 48.2 secs remaining. After Adrian Jeffries missed a FT that would have completed a 3-pt play, Parker corralled the rebound and dribbled the length of the floor. He found Rashawn McElrath on the other end for a dunk and then was fouled on the next two Simeon possessions. Parker drained 3 of the 4 FTs to seal the win.
Player of the game: Jabari Parker, Simeon, 14 pts, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks.
