Jean Barraque's "Sonate pour Violon Seul", the Sonata for Solo Violin, once thought destroyed but recently rediscovered. This is the assumed world premiere (no other performances have ever been documented), performed on November 30th, 2009. Hopefully, this may be the beginning of a trend in the discovery of some of Barraque's other output.

  • I want to play this so badly, I am in love with Barraque's music, and I heard that it was just published by Barenreiter, but it isn't on their website as available to purchase?? Anyone know where to get it?

  • It is published by Barenreiter; you just have to call them. I called them about it on Rachel Field's behalf (if you may not have noticed, she recently put up a video of her playing it) and they do, indeed, have it.

  • Who is playing the violin?

  • @John11inch

I emailed a sales rep from Barenreiter and they responded -- that it will be released at the end of the year. I guess I can wait that long, but I guess they are being lazy?

interesting, I'll have to find their American number or put money into my skype account because I don't have international phone service at all!

I hope they'll continue to find more and more of Barraque's lost works, it's such a shame that a great composer like Barraque had only seven surviving works, now eight.

  • I just made an account solely for the purpose of commenting here. I...have no words for this. This is absolutely breathtaking. The silence after listening to this work feels the same as the silence after listening to late Beethoven. (I hope that comes across the way I intend it to) Thank you so much for uploading this incredibly beautiful piece of music. I am extremely grateful.
