I take on a little stock repair project. This part takes on sanding, surface prep, and damage repair. Sorry if I screwed up, there really weren't opportunities for retakes! This video is a little different in that this is more follow along, since this was really more of a project for me.
If you love to breathe sanding dust then sand the stock at first as he did to remove the old finish. If you don't then use a paste, chemical stripper. Put the stripper on a 12 inch section, wait 10 mins. Use a single edge razor blade and carefully scrape off the old finish going with the grain.Once done, wipe it down with laquer thinner and a disposable rag. You should have clean, fresh wood at this point. Now proceed with sanding, dent removal, etc. A small Ruger 10/22 stock does'nt take long.

hey there, I have a nasty check that has opened up in woodworking project , what is the best way to make a plug and make it , crack/check is 3/16" wide and 5" long tapering to a point. also do you drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack, to prevent future cracking of the same joint?
