I have the same issue. I am in the process of trying different (1.4) hdmi cables. Sony blu-ray. And Xbox cut out. Even Tivo premiere from time to time.

I'm having the same problem. I suspect my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD, my PS3 plays blu-ray perfectly.

i have the same problem but my tv works fine when i watch a movie. only happens while watching cable tv? any idea's. i have a 55" lg tv and the lg 3d blue ray player

I also have this exact same problem on my 2 month old 508. At first I thought it was due to the long HDMI 1.4 leads not providing enough bandwidth, but I've tried several different leads of varying lengths with the same result. This is on all HDMI inputs, using everything from PC, PS3 to Cable Box. Twice now it's lost the video signal altogether and the only way to fix it was a factory reset and leaving the power off for about half an hour. Onkyo's HDMI interface has a definite design fault.

Have the 508 and having the same exact problems...

@c2msalon Wow. I just bought an Onkyo HT-R590 receiver and was about to flip my ****. Turned the setting off and haven't had the problem again. But then again it's only been a few minutes. Thanks for posting this. I was about to buy new cables or have to ship 89 lbs worth of speakers and a receiver back for no reason! Thanks again.

By the way, I got all 4 cables from monoprice for under $16 (including shipping). Monoprice was great. Someone swiped the first set of cables they delivered from our front porch (what a pisser). They sent a duplicate order for free.

Turns out that my problem was with the cables. I bought 4 high-speed cables for all my HT components and the flicker problem hasn't returned. I also made a point this time to get the shortest length cables that I could get away with. In my case it was 3 3ft cables for the components and 1 4ft cable running from the HDMI out on the receiver to the TV.

I also have this problem. I have connected all RS508s HDMI Inputs in various devices (PS3, SetTopBox, MediaPC [2 different PC with different videocards], VideoCams,...) swapped 12 different cables (from HDMI 1.1 to 1.4) also with only one HDMI cable plugged in... No go. I just contacted to my reseller and they were like "oh yeah? show us prove (links, videos, etc..) I send them 5 video clips, 20 forum links, and onkyos own products support link where they recommend to contact reseller"
You don.t have enough bandwidth on the cable for hdcp. I bought a HK, onkyo, pioneer and sony receiver. They drove me crazy and nothing would work. I plugged pc, ps3 in wall and plugged hdmi 50 feet cable and it would work. Add a receiver and everything went to shit. I replaced 50 feet cable with a 3 feet cable and everything worked. Replaced with 35 feet monster 1.4 and everything worked. Only sad think was that i paid 180 for the cable. Just got sick of returning receivers. Good Luck

I tried a variety of cables... some as short as 3 feet... nothing worked... same cables work with my new Pioneer Receiver and same DVD / TV combo. Issue is with Onkyo and they will not admit it!

Obviously most Onkyo users don't have this problem. Looks like yours needs service.

I agree but the problem is that Onkyo will not even admit there is an issue. I am not alone here either... I tried 2 different units and others have had similar issues. I think is may be a HDMI hanshake issue with certain BluRay players and the PS3 boxes that others have had issue with. if Onkyo would just admit the issue and update the firmware that would be great. Remember I wanted to buy the Onkyo... I bought 2 neither worked and no one at Onkyo would help. Bad customer Service.
